JANE ADAMS
Jane Adams was born in Vancouver. She entered the Chelsea School of Art and later the Slade School of Art. After returning to Vancouver, she studied at the Vancouver School of Art for three years under Jack Shadbolt, Roy Kiyooka and Don Jarvis. In 1965, she was awarded the Staff Scholarship and continued to win awards and scholarships, including the Leon & Thea Koerner Foundation Grant and four Canada Council Bursaries.
"Throughout my painting life, all of my works, mostly rendered on canvas and paper are very much representative of my life, the time of year and most of all, the place where I live. I have always drawn my inspiration from nature. The artist's job, I believe, is to awaken the viewer's eye to investigate a visual idea and see something totally new in an ordinary subject."

ANGELA ANDERSON
Folk art with a distinctive cute, cheery and happy style is Angela's forte. Her hand-painted and hand-stenciled wooden decorative pieces warm the homes where they are displayed. Designs featuring seasonal icons brighten up the holidays. And now Angela is taking her unique folk art style to canvas.
Inspired by her surroundings - gardens, homes, magazines, kid's faces, Angela captures the latest trends in folk art. Hand-lettered brief messages or wishes on some designs add a personal touch.
While she liked to draw as a youngster and acquired two years of commercial art schooling, Angela's creative career really took off when a friend asked her to design some wooden decorative pieces for a baby's nursery. That was nearly 20 years ago. Today, she looks forward to continually expanding her creative horizons.

JOYCE BOND BACKUS
Joyce’s whimsical scribbling began as a child, but she never grew out of it! Joyce has been an artist and teacher for 25 years and currently teaches at Syracuse University; where she earned Master degrees in Illustration and Environmental Design. In teaching kindergarten through college, she has learned, as any teacher will attest, that a sense of humor is essential. Her artwork often reflects this outlook!
Joyce works in watercolor, pastel, color pencil, oil and hand-made paper. Her subject matter encompasses tropical, aquatic, and traditional nature motifs. Her whimsical pieces feature animals and children. Although she continues to experiment in many media, she loves the spontaneity of watercolor and often uses it as under-painting on which to build detail with pastel and color pencil.
Joyce, her husband, and thirteen year old son live in their self-renovated Victorian home that sits between two Finger Lakes. Her studio windows look out on farmland and woods in all directions. Her favorite painting times are the spring and summer days when all three of her sons are home to paint the countryside and gardens. Family, friends, and felines are the welcome featured guests in her paintings.

JUDY BUSWELL
It’s not everyone that can take up painting at age 40 and proceed to become one of the most popular and best-selling artists of the day. But then, Judy Buswell is not everyone. A nurse practitioner in her first career, Buswell came from an artistic family. Her grandmother, in particular, was an exceptional watercolor artist. As for Judy, “I always loved watercolors and always knew I could do it,” she says. “I just hadn’t taken the time to get into it before.”
Once she did get into it, Buswell jumped in with two feet. She worked at it “day and night,” and took classes and workshops to learn the techniques. Today, her portfolio of printed work now encompasses some 250 different images. The majority of Buswell’s artwork features flowers or gardens – a universally appealing theme that accounts in part for her vast and growing popularity.
“The thing I love most about painting is the feeling that others bring to the work – their childhoods, their dreams, their secret places,” confides Buswell. “When people tell me that they really enjoy my paintings, that’s when it’s the most fun to be a part of it.”

TONYA CRAWFORD
Tonya was born into an Air Force family, growing up on basis from Idaho to Puerto Rico. When her father retired from the service, they settled in Ohio, where she resides today.
Blessed with a mother that always encouraged her creativity, Tonya remembers carving mice from a bar soap when she was six and making an entire winter village out of pipe cleaners at the age of nine. As she got older and entered the job market, she created opportunities for herself and became Assistant Art Director at a very successful printing company by the age 24. But, Tonya’s career lost steam as a better job presented itself - motherhood. She became a stay-at-home mom doing “art jobs” as they came up.
At the age of 40, Tonya began painting the things she loves-country settings and patriotic images. She marketed folk art paintings to several stores in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Tonya lives on a horse farm with her family. She is extremely proud of her four children, Stephen, Callan, Ralph, and Christian.

KAREN CRUDEN
Karen Cruden combines inspiration from the ‘little things’ in life with her unique style of folk art to create her very own whimsical, spirited artwork. Karen was an art teacher who grew up with the love of art all around her. “The children I taught gave me the gift of creating from my heart,” says Karen, noting how their innocence and carefree spirits were reflected in their artwork. Karen’s dad was also an accomplished artist who instilled a love for art in her heart and still inspires her creations today. Although Karen’s children and husband keep her busy with all sorts of activities and interests, she makes time to look around and observe subjects for her next creation. “Inspiration comes to me in the words people say, a glance at an old book and the events that surround all our lives.” This is all part of the imaginative process of blending heart and artful hand that infuses Karen’s artwork with a feeling of warmth and child-like delight. “I hope you find laughter, hope and love in my collection of life’s little moments.”

URSULA DODGE
Hi, My name is Ursula Dodge. I am a painter and my artwork appears on the surface of products sold all over the world. I drew compulsively throughout childhood but I began getting paid for it while earning my BFA at the University of Washington by working part time for a porcelain jewelry factory, where I designed a best-selling line of earrings and pins. This whet my appetite to launch my own company in 1989, so with $1000 and a small kiln I started making hand painted ceramic tile. I took an armload of them (20 to be exact) and a card table to the fledgling first season of the now legendary Freemont Sunday Market in Seattle. Within 8 weeks I was selling about 300 tiles per weekend and by the end of the first year I was wholesaling tiles to gourmet shops and high-end craft and gift galleries all over the country. It was a crazy time. I don’t remember sleeping for about a decade. The tiles led me to my first licensing job. Licensing is when a company uses my artwork on their product. Now my artwork appears on greeting cards and stationary, ceramic coffee cups, pet food bowls, salt & pepper shakers, spoon rests, teapots, serve ware, placemats, rugs, garden flags, mailbox magnets, napkins and paper plates, to name just a few.

CAROL ENDRES
Carol Endres has been painting in the American Primitive style, to great acclaim, for the last nine years. A native of Albany, New York, Carol and her family now reside in nearby Guilderland. By the age of 6, Carol knew she wanted to be an artist. She was already copying things and drawing her own pictures. She continues to pursue her primitive art with the same enthusiasm of her youth.
Carol's compositions are inspired by her faith in God, people, and a keen observance of things in life that make us all feel warm, happy and whole. Her work reflects her love for her children, her cat and memories from the past. She is an avid antique collector, and all these things can be found hidden in her paintings which she executes on wood panels. Carol's folk art company The Heart of America has had enormous success, producing a wide selection of products for the home and gift market. Her background as owner of an antique and gift shop helped her develop The Heart of America.
Now a household name in the folk art world, Carol Endres' work is found in museums, frame shops, gift shops, galleries, catalogues, and furniture and department stores. Her originals are sold nationally and internationally. She finds her work tremendously satisfying and loves to hear from the people who appreciate her art.

PAT FISHER
Pat began painting at an early age, encouraged by an extremely creative and self-sufficient mother. There was no money for art lessons, but Pats mother secured materials for her. She convinced Pat that God provided her with a gift to express her self through art.
Pat’s work reflects her pride and love for her country. Her style brings a visually peaceful retreat to gentler, kinder times and promotes a pleasing image to those who own her prints. Pat has been concentrating on Americana work since the early 1990’s and acknowledges Rufus Porter as her inspiration for portraying saltbox houses, churches and willow trees. Porter’s influence began while Pat was living in New Hampshire and doing an independent study of his art. She, like Porter is self-taught and has had her heart touched by the beauty and peace of New England country scenes.
Pat recognizes her loving and supportive family for encouraging her to step out in faith and share her talents with others. A staunch promoter of her small Midwest community and her art, along with that and other artist, has prompted pat and her family to create a local business called Antiques and Art. Pat’s work includes her American prints, wallpaper borders, kitchen accessories and an assortment of crafts. Pat and her husband, Joe, love to travel around this wonderful country to meet other artist, and buyers of her own beloved art.

MARILYN HAGEMAN
A Marilyn Hageman landscape conjures up the moment of a soft breeze on a summer day. She captures the sensation of movement, even in the seemingly still subjects of flowers and trees. At the age of three Marilyn began to paint horses, intrigued by their speed and motion. Now a painter of natural landscapes and botanicals, Marilyn still strives to capture the lyrical energy of the horses she drew in childhood. "I find it hard to categorize my work," Marilyn admits. Her brush strokes vary from loose and playful to concise. Reminiscent of her major artistic influences, Claude Monet and Mary Cassatt, Marilyn's florals are as representational as they are impressionistic.
In the 1980s Marilyn attended Colorado State University where she received both a bachelor's and master's degree in painting. Here she studied under Jim Dormer, a successful painter and printmaker, who remains her mentor today. "Jim's uncompromising and demanding teaching style brought out my confidence and ability as an artist. He still provides me with guidance and support."
Marilyn is represented by the Denver Art Company and her work is found in galleries and private collections in the United States. She resides in Golden, Colorado, with her husband Craig and two young children, Grant and Blake.

LISA HILLIKER
Lisa Hilliker has spent most of her life in rural northern Vermont, just a stone’s throw from the Canadian border. Surrounded by natural beauty and abundant wildlife, it is not surprising that both have become sources of inspiration for her. “I love animals and nature. Any piece of wood or stone sets me off. I start feeling and seeing what could happen.
Hilliker has been creating art since she was a small child. Early teachers included an artistic mother and grandmother, and an extraordinarily talented eighth grade art teacher. From there she has learned from other artists and let her powers of observation guide her. “Art is in the eye of the beholder,” she says.
Fellow Vermonter and Wild Apple artist Warren Kimble, who is considered to be “America’s Best Known Living Folk Artist”, has been a great source of inspiration for Lisa. “Any guy who paints on barn boards is terrific in my book,” she says.
Lisa shares Warren’s affinity for barn board. After selecting the right piece for the project, she sands it and gives it a base coat of paint. Working primarily in acrylics, she then paints, and after completing her project, finishes the piece with an antiquing process and a final protective coat of varnish.
Lisa works from a studio in her home, often with her cat, a favorite muse, at her side.

LINDA HUTCHINSON
I adore pigment: the loose and liquid quality of watercolor, the creaminess of oils and the dark graphic nature of charcoal. I learned to paint by painting. I paint a variety of images although figures fascinate me the most. I feel that my work has followed a natural evolution of serious introspection that reflects earlier studies in music, language, poetry, dance and psychology. Through these reflections my work draws on rhythm, movement, attention to detail, spontaneity and simplification of form; descriptions that are simultaneously apt and contradictory. My work has evolved into painting because of my own disappointment in words, which are often excessive, transitory and over- or under- loaded with meaning. I am intrigued by human behavior and seek to unearth that which lies beneath the surface, sometimes a sublime gesture, a memory, a visual metaphor… often contradictions, a truth for which there are no words.

KATHLEEN KIRCHNER
Every piece I create is a celebration of my life. This comes from surviving breast cancer twice. Illness made me aware that I needed to seize the opportunity, to explore my own creative and spiritual depth. A choice I know I will never regret!
While recuperating, I planted my garden. Every spring, when it begins to grow, I see it as reflection of my own rebirth. When it blooms in the summer, it becomes a beautiful symbol of delicate strength, non-judgment and the cycle of life we all must travel.
I used only the finest archival papers and inks available to ensure quality for many generations to come.

DIANE KNOTT
Diane Knott can't remember a time when she didn't want to be an artist. "Class artist" throughout grammar school, she attended college and studied both fine and advertising art in NJ. Although born in Olean, NY, where she spent her first 5 years, she grew up in NJ surrounded by centers of History and culture that have inspired her love of nostalgic themes. Her earlier years, in the home of her grandparents are the inspiration behind most of her kitchen and garden images. Today, she and husband, George, live in the beautiful Pennsylvania Mountains in a small cottage overlooking lush hills and valleys, farms and woods. These views, her home and garden, and her growing years are a constant source of material for her ever-growing portfolio.
Diane and George enjoy traveling to England, the Southwest, through the Finger Lakes Region of NY state and New England. Her plein-aire images of English cottages are among her favorites to paint. She is an avid photographer and when not painting, can usually be found with her nose in a book or her hands engaged in some form of needlework. She and George have two daughters, Holly and Danielle.

TERESA KOGUT
I was born and raised in Michigan and because I love it so, I still live here only five miles from where I grew up. I’ve always loved art. When I was a little girl, I would spend much of the day drawing and coloring, however, not realizing at that time that I could make a living as an artist.
I find inspiration in the world around me. My Country Bears mimic the playfulness of my children, whether they are in search of bugs in the woods, building sandcastles at the beach, or picking a flower to give to Mom, it is obvious my boys are reflected in my paintings. I love gardening, which is where I find inspiration for my floral designs. I am amazed every year at the vivid color and combination of colors God has created for us to enjoy. My favorite season is autumn; again the colors inspire me with their rich oranges, yellows, browns and golds. You can really get wrapped up in the season with the crisp air, pumpkins, gourds, bittersweet, candy corn, apple cider, falling leaves and the excitement of carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Then comes my favorite Holiday, Christmas! Everything about Christmas is an inspiration… the music, family gatherings, baking, gift-giving, stockings, ornaments, garlands, wreaths, poinsettias, santa, snowmen…there seems to be such an energy in the air all through December.
I work with over 40 companies, some you may have heard of…Legacy Publishing, Books are Fun, Amcal, P & B Textiles, Blossom Bucket, Park Designs, Brownlow, with products ranging from greeting cards to quilting fabric. I am passionate about painting and I am so blessed to be able to make a living doing what I love while being at home with my family.

I am an artist living in Florida with my jewel of a husband, who is known as the Captain (but I'll call him Captain Hubby so as not to be confused with a fellow blogger friend's Captain). We live to serve our three cats, Gracie (aka Queen of Evil), Cry Baby (aka Good Boy), and Menace (aka Jingle Butt).
When I am not creating new artwork to keep the licensing pipe-line fed, I am enjoying this beautiful area in which I live either on foot, on my beloved bicycle or on our sailboat, Adios (I am not sure who is the other woman - myself or her!).

ANNIE LAPOINTE
Annie LaPoint loved to draw and paint at an early age. In high school she loved her art classes and received private art instruction as a teenager.
In 1991, soon after the birth of her third child, Annie began to study the technique of watercolors at a local art league. Her instructor’s focus was on painting landscape, but from the beginning all Annie wanted to paint was pots of ivy and flowers.
Her passion for gardening is reflected in all of her artwork. Annie is best known for her rich watercolors, mossy terracotta pots and urns filled with ivy topiaries, flowering bulbs and blooms of all kinds. If you look carefully you will find a scripture reference from the bible tucked away in every painting.

KIM LEWIS
Kim Lewis, a self taught artist, was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Growing up in a family of antique collectors gave her an appreciation for older things from a simpler time which she tries to incorporate into her artwork.
She, her husband Gary and their two dogs live in a small historic town along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. They have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. They enjoy being a close family and get together often.
From making paper dolls as a small girl to doing art projects with her grandchildren, Kim has loved art for as long as she can remember. For several years she, along with her mother and daughter, ran a small home-based business selling country signs on a retail and wholesale level. It was a great learning experience. Mass-producing hand painted items became overwhelming. Painting just wasn’t fun anymore. Kim put her business away, but her love of art drew her back to painting.
“I truly love what I do, from my first pencil sketch to the last brush stroke on the painting. I get so involved in my work that even when I pull myself away to do household chores my paintings go with me from room to room. Sometimes just a glance gives me an idea or brings attention to a small detail that just isn’t quite right. My husband also lives with my artwork and for this I must thank him. He is also very supportive and always encouraging. He is genuinely interested in what I do.”

BETH LOGAN
Beth Logan really, really likes to draw a lot and she kisses her dogs on the lips. That should cover everything…but for those of you who would like to know more, here it is:
Beth has always lived in the Pacific Northwest. She has loved to draw since she could first hold a crayon. In fact, some of her earliest work was a mural of her entire family, belly buttons and all, on the wall next to her crib. Even after that, her parents encouraged her as an artist.
Beth studied graphic design at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Several years later and completely by accident she stumbled head-first into the Art Licensing business, and today her art can be found on all sorts of wonderful products. She spends her days happily drawing and painting in the Seattle home she shares with her husband and their furry family, easily inspired by a few of her favorite things: animals, gardening, and nature.

KATHLEEN PARR MCKENNA
Kathleen began her art education at the Interlochen Arts Academy, and earned her degrees from Lake Michigan College and The American Academy of Art in Chicago. Her paintings are exhibited by many corporate collections as well as privately owned collections. She has shown her works in numerous exhibitions around the country, and is a member of several watercolor societies nationwide.
“As a watercolorist, I’ve always enjoyed the mystery this medium bestows. I can express beauty and wonder and it may never be the same twice. Every brush stroke is pleasure and a completed painting or design is a joy to see. For me, the purpose of putting artwork in front of someone else’s eyes is to make that person feel good”.

MARY LAKE THOMPSON
Mary is the designer and vision behind all of the products Mary Lake-Thompson Ltd has to offer. She oversees everything from initial design concept to the end product. Mary started drawing and painting from the time she was a young child and never looked back. Growing up, she bounced around from Colorado, to Connecticut, and then back to Colorado where she attended the University of Colorado as an art student. After 2 years there, she decided she could not resist the lively state of California, and moved to San Francisco in 1970. She attended the San Francisco Art Institute where she majored in Photography. Mary met her husband, Richard Thompson, not long after arriving in the west and they married in 1974. After graduating, Mary and Richard grew tired of the city life and chose to move to the quiet town of Oroville, located about 45 minutes north of Sacramento.
It is in Oroville that Mary really began her career as a commercial artist. Soon after moving to Oroville, she had 2 daughters, Sara in 1977, and Abby in 1979. Her beautiful children served well as inspiration in her first paintings. She often used them in illustrations, along with her many beloved animals and gardens where she lived in picturesque Northern California. In the early 80’s, Mary was lucky enough to land an art show at a gallery called The Nut Tree, also located in Northern California. It was here that she sold 60 paintings and was the true start to her career. She began to sell prints to local galleries and went door to door, up and down California, selling these prints out of the trunk of her car. After the prints proved to be successful, she began a greeting card company, using her own artwork on the cards. Along with Richard, she began attending the New York Stationary show where she picked up licensing contracts, one of which was C.R. Gibson. She designed baby books, address books, diaries, paper napkins etc. Eddie Bauer was the next to approach her to design and produce gift baskets for them, which included soaps and lotion. It was after this order, that Mary got the idea to turn her designing skills into doing packaging of her own. From this point her company has designed and produced soaps, towels, aprons, bath products, drawer liners, sachets and most recently, napkins and hats. Mary has been able to use her own unique designs on all of these products as well as using reproductions of handpicked vintage art.

VALORIE EVERS WENK
Since Valorie was a little, tiny kid, she was always busy "makin' stuff". Whether drawing, painting, building snow forts, fashioning dandelion necklaces, or making mud pies. As long as she was productive, she was happy. School was fun until the seventh grade when Valorie just couldn't understand why anyone would willingly subject themselves to algebra.
High school, college, years flew by and Valorie married Rich, the boy next door, who happened to be a mathematician. (He thinks algorithms are fun!) He keeps the number crunching department running smoothly and try's to convince Valorie that computers will simplify her life. (He also makes great barbecued chicken!)
Son Jason has the best of both Mom's and Dad's strengths and specializes in computer graphics and digital imaging. He earned a degree in InterMedia from ASU, but has taken time out to serve his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army!
Daughter Elizabeth, the family "wordsmith" is a gifted writer and entrepreneur at heart. She has a degree in English plus an MBA, and together with her husband currently works in the tech area in sunny San Jose. You can find some of her inspirational verses on a number of Valorie's images
And last, but not least, is the feline brigade...Buggy, Doodle and Marvin ...whose antics make us laugh and whose cat hairs make us vacuum!

SUE ZIPKIN
Sue Zipkin has created a national following for her unique watercolor designs. Her innovative color combinations and playful artwork bring a fresh sophistication to the home furnishings and gift markets. Sue’s art transcends the test of time. Designs that were created over 14 years ago are still being collected and sought after by many loyal fans.
Sue’s designs perfectly reflect her upbeat playful personality. Whether it’s a bright rainbow palette or a spectrum of soft pastels Sue’s work can be uplifting to the spirit. She often gets emails from people who write her and say “when I see your art I feel happy”.
Sue graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 1983 and started working as an in–house designer. One of the first companies she worked for was a well known casual everyday dinnerware company. In 1989 she had a dream: to become an independent designer and bring her art to a wide variety of products. While working in-house she was told that most designers that go off to work on their own fail. She knew then that it was her destiny to succeed as a licensed designer. She created a portfolio and followed her passion.
Currently Sue lives with her patient, supportive husband Bob, her sweet silly son Max, and her senile cat Sammy. They live in a home in the suburbs of NY and their home is high on a rocky hill that overlooks a magical forest like backyard.
