Choosing the correct size for garden flag stands is essential for properly displaying decorative flags.  Outdoor decorative flags come in two sizes, the smaller of the two is the garden flag which is 12.5” X 18” in size, and the larger is the house flag which is 28” X 40” in size.

Due to their difference in size, garden and house flags require an appropriate flagstaff for optimal exhibition of the colorful artist inspired image printed on the flag.

Flag Stands

Flag stands are the most versatile option for displaying decorative flags.  Avid and novice gardeners love the ease of installation.  Flag stands simply push down into the ground or any soft surface such flowerpots, garden beds or lawns.  They easily relocate as plants grow or should a new focal point in the garden be required.

The smaller garden flag is primarily displayed on a garden flag stand.  This is a metal pole with an extension arm from which the garden flag drapes.  The bottom has two prongs that easily pushes into the soft surfaces.  The height ranges from 2 to 3 feet.  The garden flag stand comes in many design variations, with choices ranging from simple to highly ornate.

The larger house flag is displayed on a house flag stand.  This is a larger scale version of the garden flag stand with an average height of approximately 6.5 feet and a width of just over 3 feet.

When purchasing either of these flag stands, make sure it has a powder coat finish which provides outdoor durability in all types of weather.  Many flag stands break down into several pieces for ease of mailing and storage.

Flag Poles

House Flags may also be displayed on a House Flagpole.  This consist of a metal or wooden shaft that inserts into a metal bracket that has been attached to a flat surface such as a house, garage, or fence post.

Since Flag Poles are affixed to a stationary surface, they do not provide the versatility of a Flag Stand.

They require a little more work to install but provide bold visual impact for a home’s curb appeal.

When purchasing a flagpole, make sure it has a metal ferrule fitting which attaches to a fabric loop in house flag opening.  This keeps the flag in optimal viewing position and will not allow the flag to slide down the pole.  Another great feature is a spinning sleeve that virtually eliminates tangling of the flag around the pole.

Flag Arms

Garden Flags can also be displayed on a Flag Arm.  This is a smaller metal pole that extends straight out from the flat surface to which it is attached.  Since the flag arm is affixed to a stationary surface, it does not provide the versatility of a Flag Stand.

Flag Arms also require a little more work to install but provide bold visual impact when used on mailbox posts, homes, garages, or fences.
